Why the clinical context is essential
A laboratory value is rarely meaningful on its own. The clinical course, comorbidities, medications, acute infections, therapies, reference ranges and the specific medical question must also be taken into account.
Single value or trend?
For many parameters, a standardized series of measurements is more informative than a single measurement. Comparability of laboratory, method, timing and clinical situation is important.
Limitations
This examination does not replace a medical diagnosis, imaging, or pathological or molecular tumour diagnostics. Medical assessment must be performed by qualified clinicians.
