Which factors matter?
Key factors include tumour type, stage, molecular characteristics, specific biomarkers, previous treatments, general condition and possible contraindications. Assessment must be tumour-specific.
Checkpoint inhibitors
Checkpoint inhibitors are approved for certain cancers and treatment situations. Depending on the tumour, biomarkers such as PD-L1 or MSI/MMR may play a role; their significance is not the same in every tumour type.
Other immunotherapies
Depending on the disease, immuno-oncology can also include cellular therapies and therapeutic vaccination strategies. These differ considerably in approval status and evidence.
Putting dendritic-cell approaches in context
Dendritic cells present antigens and can initiate T-cell responses. Therapeutic dendritic-cell approaches are being studied and used; evidence differs by tumour type, manufacturing process and study design. They should not be equated with approved checkpoint inhibitors.
Individual therapy review
A meaningful review should not start with a single procedure, but with the question of which established, targeted, immuno-oncology and, where appropriate, clinical-trial options fit the individual findings.
Have your individual medical records reviewed
Existing findings, histology, current imaging, previous treatments and – where available – molecular results can be reviewed together for structured orientation.
